By origin, Luis Suarez Miramontes is Galician. One of the most technical players in the history of world football was born on May 2, 1935 in La Coruna. Like many of his colleagues, the boy became interested in playing with the ball in early childhood:
Already in six years, football attracted me much more than the school.
From the age of 10 he started playing in the children's team of the amateur club “Action Catholic Catholic Santo Tomas.” Louis’s body build was fragile and graceful, he was not tall enough, so dad Augustin, a butcher by profession, saw his son’s outstanding abilities and began to feed him with steaks with blood . Such nutrition helped, and natural talent drew the attention of specialists, in particular, Argentinean coach Deportivo Alejandro Scopelli.
It was Skopelli who gave the young man his first football lessons, after which Suarez was sent to the farm club Deportivo Fabril so that he would have a regular player practice. Galicians hoped that as soon as the young man turned 18 years old, he would begin to act in the first team and bring the club a lot of benefits. And in vain ... Barcelona intervened, which lureds Suarez to her, and did not allow him to fully play in his native club. And in the capital of Catalonia, Louis had the opportunity to systematically develop in the shadow of the legendary Ladislao Kubala.
As you know, the presence of a team legends sometimes constrains. Especially when two strong personalities clash. From a collision with the new club coach Elenio Herreroy, who had previously won two league titles with Atletico Madrid, Kubala, of course, could not win. However, there was no other way for the future katenachcho icon: his football demanded a different leader - one who was able to surrender to the mercy of the team, who was able to sacrifice personal ambitions for the common good.
In this regard, the appearance in Barcelona of Suarez is truly fateful. Initially, it was skeptical for team, but the results forced them to reconsider their opinion. Luisito was the embodiment of football altruism, he easily adapted to the position of the left-center midfielder, where Herrera sent him, and began to create. He was the brain of Barca, and, moreover, did not lose the ability to score goals. In eight seasons in the capital of Catalonia (from 1953/54 to 1960/61), Suárez won two league titles, two Spanish Cups and two Fair Cups, as the UEFA Cup was called before 1971. The golden ball from Frans Football is a well-deserved reward, which, by the way, only once in history was in the hands of the Spaniard. Or, if you will, a Galician, but this is not the point, but the fact that the Argentinean Messi is collecting prestigious awards for the current golden generation of Barcelona.
Meanwhile, Elenio Herrera moved to Inter Angelo Moratti and there already began to reshape the team for themselves. Antonio Angelillo was rightfully considered the idol of Milan; he was adored by both simple tifozi and the president of Nerazzurri himself. However, Hererra puts a condition: if you want to win, Angellilo will have to refuse from the services. Nothing can be done - I had to agree. Having received a blank check, the Argentine Magician demanded that Suarez be purchased from Barcelona. What was done - a record amount of transfer did not frighten Angelo Moratti, as she did not frighten, by the way, his son: 25 million pesetas or 300 million lire.
I must say that indiscreet losses was justified. Herrera's pet instantly blended into the game, inspiring Sandro Mazzola and Zhair to the exploits, and perfectly interacting with another team brain, libero Armando Picchi. He became the first Spanish football player who played for the Italian club. The Galician is always calm and silent, unlike the explosive Argentinian patron, who has repeatedly arranged disassembly with the press and detractors on the air. Louisito did not make loud statements, but built the game - the game of the team, which will soon be called the Great Inter. And after many years, Herrera admits, not without piety:
Among the great footballers I had at hand, Suarez is the most important. Most important!
The Black and Blue epic of the Great Inter began with the Scudetto of 1962/63, won by Juventus with a four-point advantage. And ended four years later, but not at all on a happy note: on May 28, 1967, Inter lost the European champions Celtic Cup final in Lisbon, and on June 1 lost to Mantova in the final round of Serie A and gave the title straight to Juventus. As Suarez himself recalls:
In Lisbon, neither I nor Zhair could play due to injuries, which influenced the outcome of the match, because in those times the players were not interchangeable, as now: there were 16-18 players and a few guys from Primavera. We managed to recover by leaving for Mantuya, and that match was considered a formality. However, we lost with a score of 0: 1, having experienced the full horror of a fall from the top. However, I do not think that our cycle would have ended then if Herrera had not decided to carry out a revolution. After all, in general, the season was not a failure: we reached the Champions Cup final and kept the table in the championship. However, Elenio chased after the novelty and a year later we finished fifth. So ended the Great Inter.
True, he managed to win three Scudettos, two European Cup and two Intercontinental Cups.
Luisito stayed in Milan until 1970, until the club changed leadership: Ivano Fraizzoli replaced Moratti. They decided to get rid of the veterans, and Luisito ended up in Genoa, at Sampdoria. The class and the football mind do not disappear with age, so for three seasons in a blue-colored T-shirt, Suarez was by no means superfluous on the field, and even received calls to the national team (April 12, 1972, Greece - Spain 0:0). By the way, about Furia Rohe: after all, the first trophy in its history - the European Championship in 1964 - also did not go without the participation of Suarez, and as the team leader.
In 1988/89 and 1990/91 he headed the national team of Spain. In the second apparatus of the 1990s, coached "Inter". Luis Suarez is now working on the Inter Scout and sometimes expresses his thoughts on football. For example, such:
Relations with people were completely different than now. We didn’t stay in the spotlight all the time, being ordinary footballers, and not something average between actors and photo models. And football, in which we played, of course, was less dynamic, but a thousand times more technical than it is now.
Suarez at the gold ball award ceremony 2010 About the best player in Europe in 2010:
Spain in recent years has achieved significant success, and any Spanish football player could get the "Golden Ball." In the example at the highest level, there are two players - Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. But, as it seems to me, in the year when Spain won the World Cup, the Golden Ball had to win either Xavi or Iniesta. It's not just about winning the world championship. Iniesta scored the winning goal in the final and won trophies with “Barcelona.” Messi is the same, but Iniesta also won the World Cup, and if you compare all the achievements for the whole season, both Xavi and Iniesta achieved more than Messi.
