Lev Yashin was born in the Bogorodskoye district of Moscow, in a working-class family of Ivan Petrovich and Anna Petrovna. He spent his childhood on Millionnaya Street in the house number 15.
At the beginning of the summer of 1941, my mother and I, as always on holidays, went to Polyany, to a village near Podolsk, where our relatives lived and where I had been waiting for three wonderful months - fish trade, a full forest of mushrooms, hiking in the night... But a few days later my mother came for me and took me to Moscow. The war began...
During World War II, at the age of twelve, Lev Yashin was evacuated along with his family near Ulyanovsk, where in the spring of 1943 he went to the factory, apprenticeship of a mechanic. Then he graduated from the 5th grade of secondary school, and since the fall he has already started going to work with his father. The plant operated for more than a year, and Lev Yashin was placed as a mechanic apprentice, given a real work card, and when the younger brother grew up, the mother also went to work at the plant.
He returned to Moscow in early 1944, and all his free time was devoted to his favorite game, the performance for the Tushino national team. At the beginning of the sixth morning the young man was leaving the house in Sokolniki and first by tram, then by subway and then again on the tram got to work and the same route back in the evening returned home.
Factory Amateur Tournament (1948)
Passed the years. From the factory sports club, I will join the Dynamo in the youth team, and I will join the Maystrov team in the Dynamo team; I will become an player of the country. Fate.
From 1949 played for the youth team of the football club Dynamo (Moscow), becoming the understudy of A. P. Khomich as a substitute for it. Lev Yashin played only for this club, right up to the end of his football career in 1971.
At the beginning of his sports career, Yashin also played hockey with a puck (from 1950 to 1953). In 1953 he became the holder of the USSR Hockey Cup and the bronze medal winner of the USSR Championship, also speaking on goalkeeper's position. Before the hockey world championship of 1954 he was a candidate for the national team, but decided to concentrate on football.
It was not easy to take a seat in the main part of the football team Dynamo. At this time, the main goalkeeper of Dynamo was the famous goalkeeper Alexei Khomich, whom the fans nicknamed "Tiger". Only since 1953 Yashin firmly took the place at the gates of Dynamo.
Together with his club Lev Yashin five times (1954, 1955, 1957, 1959 and 1963) became the champion of the USSR and won the USSR Cup three times.
Since 1954, Yashin is the goalkeeper of the USSR national football team. In general, Yashin spent 78 matches for the national team. Together with the USSR team in 1956, Yashin won the Olympic Games in Melbourne, the 1960 European Cup. As part of the national team he played three times in the final stage of the World Cup, in 1958 in Sweden, in 1962 in Chile and in 1966 in England. The highest achievement in the world championships - the fourth place in the championship in 1966. He was very worried about the failure of the USSR team at the World Cup in Chile. The USSR team lost to the championship quarter-finals to the owners of the tournament. Many accused Yashin of this loss, although the foreign media appreciated Yashin's play. In the USSR then did not forgive mistakes. The past services are not taken into account, we must be the best today.
It was even harder than the beginning. It was terrible to go to the field. But I knew that I would come out that I would return to the national team that I had not yet given football everything that he could and should give...
Yashin was also declared the third goalkeeper at the 1970 World Cup in Mexico, but did not take part directly in the games.
Pele once said about Yashin:
I deeply appreciate the art of this wonderful wizard, who is considered one of the best goalkeepers of our time...
In 1963, at the Wembley Stadium in London, Lev Yashin played for the world team in a match dedicated to the centenary of English football. Throughout the world, Yashin was called: "Black panther" - for his always black goalie form, his mobility and acrobatic jumps; "Black Spider" or "Black Octopus" - for his long hands.

From London, he brought us, the players of the basic composition (and not the leaders!), 15 ties. We were very touched by this gesture. By the way, that tie, though out of fashion, is still kept in my wardrobe. Later we learned that Yashin could probably buy only one tie for a modest fee. The German defender Schnellinger rescued: "Lev, in Moscow they expect souvenirs from you. But why spend the money, which you, we know, is not enough. You are a brilliant goalkeeper, better take these ties from us in memory of our meeting and present them to your friends." Lev, who never asked anyone for anything, refused for a long time, but Schnellinger put his ties on the bed and left the room.
In 1963, Yashin (the only goalkeeper) received the prize of the best footballer in Europe - Golden Ball from the weekly France Football.
On May 27, 1971, in the presence of 103,000 spectators, a farewell match of Lev Yashin took place. In this match, the team of clubs of the All-Union sport community "Dynamo" (the game was attended by masters from Moscow, Kiev and Tbilisi), played against the national team of World Stars, played by Eusebio, Bobby Charlton, Gerd Muller and many others. No matter how hard Gerd Muller tried to hit the Dynamo gates, he failed.
Is Lev Yashin really parting with football? No, this is impossible, I can not believe, he is just great!
After the match, the West German forward said this. Leaving the field during the match, Yashin handed his gloves to 23-year-old goalkeeper Vladimir Pilguy, symbolically appointing him as his successor in Dynamo. At the end of the farewell match, Lev Ivanovich Yashin turned to the stands at the Luzhniki Stadium with a short, awkward speech. "Thank you, people." The match ended with a score of 2:2, and Pilguy took his place at the Dynamo goal for the next 11 years.
Yashin treated his misses very sharply and painfully. He said once:
What is this goalkeeper, if not tormenting himself for a missed goal! Must torment. If calm, then the end. Whatever his past, he has no future.
After completing his football career, he graduated from the school of coaches at the State Central Institute of Physical Culture in 1967. Head of the Dynamo team (in 1971 - April 1975).
After the tragedy with a young talented football player Kozhemyakin, Lev Ivanovich was accused of "weakening moral and educational work." He worked as a coach of the second national team of the USSR and for some time children's teams.
After 50 years, Yashin developed gangrene on his left leg, caused by the obliteration of blood vessels due to intense smoking. In 1984, his leg was amputated. After the operation continued to smoke.
On March 18, Lev Yashin received the title of Hero of Socialist Labor, be him only two days. He died on March 20, 1990, after complications caused by smoking and continuing gangrene. He was buried at the Vagankovo cemetery.
