On September 15, 2001, the champion of Hungary, Ferencváros, congratulated Florian Albert, the only player in the history of the country who won the title of Europe's best football player, on his 60th anniversary. Albert received many gifts, among which was the T-shirt "Bavaria" number "60" from Franz Beckenbauer, who failed to get to Budapest for a festive ceremony, and witnessed the opening of his own statue in the building of the club in Budapest. And then at the Ferencváros stadium, with which the laureate of the Golden Ball-67 performed for 16 seasons, an exhibition match was held in which the team now days met with team that in 1995, during the first and for the last time won the place among the League participants champions.

At that time, in the eastern part of Europe, Albert manifests himself as an athlete of the era, helping social life; in the West, when they says about him, they were sorry that he was not born for 10 years before. In this case, he put the team "Great Mad." In which were Pushkash, Kochish, Hidegkuti and Bozhik, and, having such partners, even better revealed their talent.

Florian Albert was born in the family of a blacksmith in the village of Hercegsanto, which was located near the border with Serbia. There he began to play football, learning this from his two older brothers. Albert's mother belonged to the Shocky ethnic group, the Croats who lived in Hungary. She died when Florian was only two years old. After eight years, the family moved to Budapest. At the age of 10, he ended up at the Ferencváros football school. But Florian was only on the way to adult football, when in 1956 Soviet tanks entered Budapest, and a number of outstanding craftsmen had to break with their homeland.

In the late 50s, the Hungarian national team was created almost anew. For this reason, the young talent immediately, having barely won back his first matches in the national championship, took part in it. Albert was 17 years old when he first dressed in the national team shirt in the summer of 1959. On that day, Hungary beat the second world team at the time - Sweden (3:2), and 72 thousand fans on the "Nepshtadion" enthusiastically welcomed the debutant.

Albert devoted all his life to one club - "Ferencváros". As he came to him at the age of 10, he had served him in one capacity or another for half a century. When he was a young men he was predicted to become one of the strongest Hungarian defenders, they saw in him the successor of the traditions of the famous defencists of the past - Orta, Piffer, Pataki. But the experts were wrong. Florian retrained in the center forward and still grew into one of the most ambitious figures in the history of Hungarian football. The defense skills of the game, by the way, were very useful to him: for him, who had deeply studied the destructive craft, it was easier to fight with experienced defenders.

He chose Nandor Hidegkuti as an example for himself, who, playing as a central striker, intuitively felt the effectiveness of the drawn manner of the game. Albert tried to act in the same way and also acquired a certain success in this manner, although in terms of purely technical and physical characteristics, he was noticeably different from his predecessor.

Albert Florian

He was rather medically developed physically, sometimes he was reproached for his lack of hardness and energy. But this list of shortcomings of Albert and ended. Further there were some advantages. He played great head, had a well-placed kick from both feet, unique, "sliding", the style of the ball. He perfected the false swing, which came across all without exception. He was well-versed in the most confusing situation, and the natural mind allowed him to cope well with the functions of the playmaker.

Already by the age of 20, Florian had accomplished many feats. In 1959, he became the top scorer of the junior European champion, a year later he received a bronze Olympic medal, and then made a stunning hat trick at the gates of the Yugoslavs, playing a key role in the victory of the Hungarians over Germany.

At the World Championships in Chile, the 20-year-old Albert went to a very well-known and highly-rated football player, who was put in a number of potential world championship stars. And in principle, he met the expectations. In the first match with England, Florian realized a brilliant solo pass, and his goal became victorious (2:1). The next opponent - Bulgaria: it was only 50 seconds from the start, when he disturbed the Bulgarian net for the first time. In the sixth minute, he did it again, and in the second half he designed a hat-trick. It turned out 6: 1. Hungarians were not destined to move far in that tournament: they fell in the quarterfinals from the Czechs (0:1). but even there, Albert did what he could: scored a goal that was not counted because of offside. As a result, his result - 4 goals scored - no one could beat, although it was repeated by five more players.

In the new world history, Albert has risen to a new level. The fight with Brazil (3:1), in which the Magyars destroy to the highest team, which for eight years did not converge from the football throne, becoming the star match of his entire career.

Albert was the pioneer of almost all attacks, as if clearing the way to the Brazilian goal with partners - Bene, Rakosi and Farkas - with his smart, accurate and timely passes. A classic example was the third goal, knocked out bikampeonov. Albert took possession of the ball in the middle of the field, walked three Brazilians one after the other, and did it so masterly that it seemed that he didn’t change his straightforward movement forward a jot. Then followed the perfect threading pass to Ferenc Bene. Tom didn’t even have to handle the ball, all that remained was to smuggle it into Farkash’s touch, and Farkas completed the masterpiece, driving the projectile into the net. The game was held in Goodison Park in Liverpool, at the Everton Stadium, and fans of this club made up a significant share of the audience. At the end of the match, they did not stop chanting: “Albert! Albert!”

Interestingly, in Brazil after the Liverpool match, Albert became extremely popular. Brazilians who knew a lot about football not forgot hem, and in 1967 they invited him to visit and play several matches as part of their leading clubs. In 1968, when Brazil hosted a match against the world team on the occasion of the anniversary of its independence in Rio de Janeiro and he played again against Brazil.

The inclusion of Albert in the list of world stars was not even discussed: it was taken for granted. His skill once again made a deep impression on everyone, and Flamengo offered him a lucrative contract. Albert responded with a polite refusal. 1966 was a stellar year for Albert, when the time of the France Football referendum approached, he had to let other masters ahead, such as Bobby Charlton and Eusebio. This is understandable: in purely material terms, they achieved more in the world championship than Albert, who was content with fifth place in the individual star rating.

But in 1967, journalists returned him a debt, "in aggregate" of all his feats, bringing him to Olympus. On the same December day, he received two news: the award of his "Golden Ball" and the birth of his son - Florian Jr. (who later went in the footsteps of his father, settled in "Ferencváros", but a very prominent football player did not become).

They presented the Golden Ball before some important match, but could not match the match. Finally, in May 1968, the qualifying match against the USSR seemed perfect in all respects. But I was injured shortly before the match, and the trophy was handed to me in the evening in the restaurant. You know why this ball is so special? He is special because he will not be able to pick up any defender from me.

Becoming a "lifelike classic", Albert could, from the height of his reputation, put on the sporting leadership of his country a much greater influence than it was allowed his comrades who had not crowned laurels. Sometimes he enjoyed his exceptional position, which gave rise to jealousy.

At that time, Albert was at his peak for 26 years, played almost 70 matches for the national team and seemed to inevitably will beat the national record of Jozef Bozych, who played 100 matches. But destiny was ordered differently. On June 15, 1969, in the qualifying match of World Cup-70 with Denmark in Copenhagen, Florian suffered a serious injury - a fracture of his legs - in a collision with goalkeeper Knud Englelda. He did not play for more than a year, and when he returned, he wasn't player wich he was before, speaking without previous shine until 1974.

FLORIAN AND EURO-72

His skill sometimes made himself known, as happened, for example, in the semi-finals of Euro-72 in Brussels against the Soviet team. Albert did not take part in previous Hungarian matches, but he was specially trained for the European Championship. The Illinois coach did not put it into the main line, replacing it on the 60th minute when Hungarians lost 0:1. He then explained:

I kept Albert to the final. But the game with the national team of the USSR is so difficult that I realized: if I do not use him now, then it will be late.

Albert was the last chance of the Hungarians to save the situation. And the veteran, who went out under a very rare number for the time - 24, made everything dependent on him. Six minutes before the end, he broke through our defense and was beaten down. At the gate of Rudakov was appointed 11 m. Albert's efforts, however, is spoiled by his partner, Zambo, whose blow has turned out to be indecisive. Rudakov guessed the direction of the flight and caught off the ball without letting the game pass in an extra time.

DEATH

Florian Albert died in Budapest on the 71st year of life. The cause of death were old heart problems.
